What Are the Best Low-Maintenance Plants for an Apartment in Miami?

If you love plants but feel like you don't have enough time to care for them, you don't have to give up on bringing nature into your home. After years of designing biophilic spaces throughout Miami, I've learned that success doesn't come from having a green thumb— it comes from choosing the right plants for your lifestyle. When I recommend plants for apartments, I don't start with the trendiest or most eye-catching option.

I start by understanding how each person lives.

Do you work long hours?

Do you travel frequently?

Is this your first houseplant?

Those answers matter much more than following trends.

Three of my favorites for beginners are ZZ Plant (Zamioculcas), resilient, elegant, and needs very little watering; (Snake Plant), perfect for indoor spaces and very easy to care for; and Pothos, a versatile plant that grows very well with indirect light.

The best plant isn't always the most popular, it's the one that truly fits your home, your light, and your lifestyle.

Miami Green Girl's tip:

Don't fill your home with plants all at once. Start with one or two varieties you can confidently care for. When your plants fit your routine, taking care of them becomes enjoyable instead of overwhelming.

If you'd like to create a beautiful, low-maintenance green space, I can help you choose the right plants and design a biophilic environment that reflects your lifestyle.
